Mac App Store Pricing

View all posts by Dan

Yesterday we posted some further thoughts on the Mac App Store, and tomorrow we see the Mac App Store finally take flight. There's been plenty of discussion about what developers will do with their apps and pricing, so today we're announcing some pricing changes that will come into effect once the App Store goes live. Customers who purchase one of our applications via the Realmac Store will not be affected by these changes as, where applicable, they're being applied to our own store. It's also important to remember that the Mac App Store has no way to move existing users of any application over to the version sold in the Mac App Store (that is, unless users re-purchase the application).

RapidWeaver 5.0

To allow existing RapidWeaver customers to upgrade to RapidWeaver 5.0 through the Mac App Store - should they wish - we'll be pricing RapidWeaver at $39.99 for a limited time. This allows users to purchase their upgrades through their preferred option - the Realmac Store, or the Mac App Store. We'll be evaluating the $39.99 price after the dust from the App Store launch has settled.

LittleSnapper 1.7

LittleSnapper will see a price-drop to $24.99, and this price applies to purchases through both the Mac App Store and our own store.

Courier

As of today, Courier is no longer available via the Realmac Software store as it's going to be our first App Store-exclusive app. We've also lowered the price of Courier to just $4.99, so there's no reason not to pick up a copy tomorrow!

To enable existing Courier customers move to the Mac App Store version of Courier, from tomorrow existing customers will be able to claim a refund of their Realmac Store-purchased copy of Courier. In order to claim this, users should contact us using a special email address: courier-appstore [at] realmacsoftware [dot] com. You should ensure that you include both the original order reference, along with your iTunes Store receipt for Courier. You can claim the refund, alongside an iTunes receipt, until the end of this month.

We're incredibly excited about what the future holds for Mac developers, and can't wait to check out what others have been busy working on after tomorrow's launch. See you on the App Store!
