RapidWeaver 3.4 is Leopard ready
RapidWeaver

New Foundations

On Tuesday, we released RapidWeaver 3.6.6. Unfortunately a small bug affecting the Blog plugin on Mac OS X Tiger crept into the release - we're sorry if you've been affected by this.

Needless to say, we've working on this issue and after a brief testing phase, we're pleased to release RapidWeaver 3.6.7 for all users. The only fix in this release is for Tiger users, however we recommend that everyone runs version 3.6.7 - you can grab your download here.

new-shot

With the release of 3.6.7, we're of course now prioritising the launch of RapidWeaver 4. So what's the state of play with 4? Here's a brief recap of the details to date.

rw4
RapidWeaver 4 is Leopard only, however we are still intending to provide maintenance releases for users of 3.6 - so don't panic if you're not on Leopard just yet - and it's also a free update if you're a RapidWeaver 3.6 customer. Version 4 has been heavily re-engineered under the hood, so whilst some changes might not be obvious at first, these new foundations will not only improve your RapidWeaver experience at launch, but also as RapidWeaver continues to evolve.

We'll be releasing further details shortly, including a form asking for beta testers, so be sure to sign up for our newsletter to find out all the latest news.

RapidWeaver 3.6.6 is out now!

Greetings RapidWeavers!

As we mentioned in our last blog post, we've been busy on RapidWeaver 4.0, however we've also working hard to fix some minor issues with RapidWeaver 3.6.5. Today, we're pleased to announce that RapidWeaver 3.6.6 is now out. In this update, we've resolved issues with Image Normalisation, Page-Specific Theme .plist files, Movie playback and a much-improved export speed. This is a free update for all registered users of RapidWeaver 3.6.x and we strongly advise all customers (on both Leopard and Tiger) to update to this new version. You can grab it on our downloads page. Happy Weaving!

Looking Backwards and Forwards

As we approach the Christmas break in the Realmac Office, we've been looking back on 2007...

It's been quite a year for RapidWeaver. The user base has grown by tens of thousands of people, and the application is now more stable and more mature than ever before. I'd like to thank all the Theme and Plugin developers, and especially the users for all their support.

Without you guys RapidWeaver really wouldn't be what it is today. Thank you!

Next year is going to be a very exciting time for RapidWeaver and its users. We'll be releasing version 4.0, and with that some monumental changes are happening, even more than we had anticipated.

Due to the changes we're making to the core of RapidWeaver, we've unfortunately had to push back the release schedule. But on the positive side you'll be rewarded with a much better application!

We're currently aiming to have a private beta out in the early part of 2008. And yes, RapidWeaver 4.0 is a FREE upgrade for all 3.6 users, but it will require Leopard. Don't worry if you're not planning on upgrading to Leopard anytime soon as we will continue to support 3.6 for the foreseeable future.

Happy Holidays and here's to 2008!

Oh, and if you want to keep a closer eye on what we're up to here in the office, you can find us all on Pownce!

Calling all RapidWeavers

We're in the process of setting up a new website to help users spread the word about RapidWeaver. If you love RapidWeaver even half as much as we do, we think you'll want to let other Mac users know about it.

It's called, iloverapidweaver.com. We hope you like it.

I Love RapidWeaver forever

The site isn't finished yet, but we'd love to hear what you think of the idea, so please drop us a line or post a comment here.

What's New?

Our blog has been a little quite for the last few weeks, so I thought it was about time I gave an update on what's going on here at Realmac HQ.

ButtonBuilder
As you may be aware we recently released ButtonBuilder as open source over at Realmac Forge. The new version is coming along great and is almost ready for release as a usable app. You'll be able to find out more at buttonbuilderapp.com once it goes live early next week.

New Pro Theme
We have a great new theme in the pipeline that will appeal to the pro market. We're really pleased with the way it turned out and hope you love it as much as we do. Expect to see this new theme around the time of the next RapidWeaver update...

RapidWeaver 3.6.2 Update
This is a nice little update that fixes plenty of outstanding bugs, and adds a few small features and UI enhancements. If all goes to plan this will be released late next week or early the following week. More news on this soon!

RapidWeaver Manual
We're just putting the finishing touches to the new RapidWeaver 3.6 manual, we've tried to make it as comprehensive as possible and cover every aspect of the software. It'll be released at the same time as the 3.6.2 update.

New RSS Feeds
We've recently started using FeedBurner to manage our feeds. If you're using our old RSS links to subscribe, you should head over to our feeds page and update them now.

Phew, that's it for now. We have about a billion other things going on, but I can't talk about any of that just yet.

iPhone RapidWeaver Theme

To celebrate the launch of the iPhone, we've designed a new RapidWeaver theme exclusively for the iPhone.

This theme is perfect for sites that are intended to be viewed only on the iPhone. It features a smooth minimalist design and a semi-transparent sidebar that slides in when needed.

iphone_theme2

The final iPhone theme will be included as standard in RapidWeaver 3.6.2, due out early next month. However, you can download the iPhone theme (beta) today – It's only in beta as it hasn't been tested on a real iPhone.

If you want to take a look at how your site might look like on the iPhone, I'd recommend using iPhoney.

And if you're lucky enough to have an iPhone you should head over to the Goodies section on our site and grab yourself some iPhone sized desktop images. Enjoy!

You don't need Dreamweaver...

MacFormat (Issue 184) has just reviewed RapidWeaver 3.6 and awarded it an awesome 4 out of 5 stars. They had the following to say about it:

You don't need Dreamweaver to create pro sites that knock iWeb's efforts into a cocked hat

It's just as easy to use as iWeb, but it gives you considerably more control over the behaviour of your site

In the very same issue MacFormat also includes a four page article on how to get the most out of RapidWeaver.

Hot to build a site with RapidWeaver

It covers everything from starting your first site to adding visitor tracking, Google AdSense, and even how to go about editing themes.

I don't think it gets much better than that!

We want to make you happy

It's been exactly 24 hours since we released RapidWeaver 3.6 and our brand new website. As with a lot of major new releases we've had a few teething problems, as a lot of you have noticed!

We're doing the best we can to resolve each and every issue. If you don't get an instant reply to your support email don't worry, we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

As you can imagine we're a little snowed under right now with email, so it may take up to 48 hours for us to get back to you. Hang in there!

Here's a few of your questions answered in a Q and A style:

Q: I only just purchased RapidWeaver 3.5, do I have to pay for the upgrade?
A: Don't worry, anyone who purchased a full priced copy of RapidWeaver 3.5 on or after April 1st 2007, is entitled to a free upgrade.

Q: Will I have to pay for each point upgrade now?
A: Nope, the next paid upgrade will be RapidWeaver 4.0, and that's more than a year away. In the meantime you'll get plenty of free upgrades, such as the next version that will take advantage of Leopard!

Q: Help, my serial number doesn't work!
A: We've had quite a few of these, in most cases it appears the serial number is not being entered correctly. Please try entering it again, exactly as it appears. If it still doesn't work, simply drop us an email and we'll fix it for you.

Q: Your contact form isn't working?
A: This is simply down to the load on the server. We've had far more visitors and interest than expected, things should settle down in the next few days.

If you have anymore more questions, please feel free to drop me an e-mail and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. I'm also happy to answer any questions posted in the comments area of this post.

We are Realmac Software. We want to make you happy.

We'll be back in a bit.

Uh oh, it's all gone dark!
Once we get these pesky lights fixed you'll be able to see what we've been hard at work on for the last six months.

In the meantime, please stay calm…
